Understory is a 16mm film exploration of the flora, fauna and fungi of the redwood forest. (30 min.)
Filmed in extreme closeup, in short bursts, the film gives the feeling of exploring the forest floor on hands and knees, blinking at the wonders illuminated by the shifting light. Some of the film is processed with a homemade eco-developer made from the bark of a fallen redwood tree.
16mm film: Adele Horne
Marcia Sloane will perform live cello improvisation to accompany the film.
Devreaux Baker and Eve Luckring will ready poems reflecting on the forest and environs, prior to the film.
